The quadruplets walk past their home in Shangbao Village, Ganzhou City of east China's Jiangxi Province, July 23, 2025.
Wu Nianyou, a farmer in Shangbao Village of Ganzhou City, and his wife Deng Dinglan saw their quadruplet daughters come to the world in 2010. They named their daughters Wu Mengting, Wu Mengling, Wu Mengyun and Wu Mengqin. At that time, the quadruplets were both a big surprise and a financial burden for them.
With the help of the local government and society, the couple endured the hardships to raise their four daughters, and their lives have been improved gradually. In 2016, Wu constructed a three-story house. By 2019, the family had shaken off poverty.
Today, the quadruplets have grown into middle school students, and become sisters to the family's five-year-old son. During summer vacation, the quadruplets take turns to help with household chores while preparing for next year's high school entrance exam.
This year, Wu obtained his loader operator certification and works at a new energy company in the neighboring township. Deng gets up before dawn to help relatives install support frames for their navel orange trees, and after lunch, she weeds and tills the soil in the family's fields.
The local government provides subsistence allowances to all five children, while a company in the county covers essential educational expenses for the quadruplets. The couple still diligently tends to their fields and takes on odd jobs for extra income.
