Recently, the “Peony Lecture Hall“ event was held at Singapore's Li De Secondary School, providing teachers and students with a distinctive experience of Chinese culture. The event was led by Guo Xuqian, founder of the Singapore Chinese Arts Centre and cultural ambassador for overseas cultural promotion from Chengwu County. Students engaged in activities such as painting Peking Opera masks and learning to sing Peking Opera, allowing them to deeply appreciate the unique charm of peony culture and traditional Chinese arts.

The peony, revered as the “King of Flowers“ in Chinese culture, symbolizes prosperity, good fortune, and happiness. At the beginning of the event, Guo Xuqian used the peony as a starting point to explain its profound cultural significance. He noted that the peony is not only a favorite subject of poets and scholars but also an important element in traditional Chinese art. In the Peking OperaDrunken Concubine, peonies are often used as stage props or backdrops, their elegant and luxurious appearance enhancing the beauty and complex emotions of the character Yang Guifei. Guo's vivid explanations deepened the students' understanding of peony culture and sparked their strong interest in Peking Opera.
