On September 8, 2026, the Neuroscience Centre at Weihai Municipal Hospital, affiliated with Shandong University, successfully completed the post-implantation activation and debugging of an invasive brain-computer interface—the first such procedure performed at a prefectural-level hospital in China. The patient's EEG signal quality was excellent, and he controlled a paired pneumatic glove solely through thought, smoothly performing hand-grasping movements. This marks a major milestone in the clinical application of the world's first approved invasive brain-computer interface medical device at a prefectural-level hospital, opening up a new path for technological rehabilitation for patients with motor dysfunction caused by spinal cord injury.
