The facekini is a nylon sun-protective swimming head covering. It was designed in 2004 by Zhang Shifan, a Qingdao native, modeled after a diving hood, mainly for sun protection and to prevent jellyfish stings. Today, on Qingdao's beaches, many residents can still be seen wearing facekinis while swimming in the sea, and it is also a well-known folk feature of Qingdao.
